There are very few people who realize that most of a popular blog’s traffic is return traffic. New traffic is something that only occurs upon occasion, whereas regular traffic will come back again every week. Plus, if you have an RSS feed, then your loyal viewers will look at your new posts and the posts that he/she missed earlier in the month. Getting people coming back is what is going to power your blog. It is the reason why you write it in the first place, since surely you are not writing each post so that only new blog attendees view it, right?

Following some ways to keep visitors coming back to your blog:

Blog frequently

There’s no point in even having a blog if you’re only going to update it once in a blue moon. Why would someone keep checking your blog if, for the past three months, every time they have checked there has been nothing new? Plus, blogs that aren’t updated frequently are simply out of date. That news story you told six months ago…. guess what? It’s not news anymore. And out of date blogs are hugely unappealing for readers.

Keep your language simple

Reading blogs is considered a light reading activity for many. I personally don’t like the idea of getting out the dictionary and spending an hour translating a 300 word post from pretentiousness into English. Keep your language straightforward and simple. You don’t need to show off your vocabulary. It’s not enjoyable reading when it’s more confusing than a lecture on rocket science in Swahili. Know what the point of your post is, get to the point and do so in a way that people understand. This has SEO benefits too, given that people generally search in simple, straightforward terms.

Ask yourself what the point is

It might seem harsh, but before you hit the ‘publish’ button, read back over your material and ask yourself what the point in it is. Has it been written to educate or inform? Has it been written to entertain? And most importantly, does the final piece do what it set out to do? What’s in it for your readers? There has to be some sort of benefit for your readers in reading the posts you publish, otherwise, why would they bother?

Let your readers get to know you

If a blogger does not apply a little of his or her personality in the posts they publish, they don’t come across entirely human. In exposing some of your personality when you write, your readers feel as though they get to know you as a person and become familiar with your style. People feel much more comfortable commenting when they at least feel as though they have an idea of who the person they’re commenting to is. Blogs that lack personality, to me, feel as though they’re auto-posted by bots! And even if this isn’t the case, I find them bland and never return to them more than once.

Invite Guest Contributions

While you may have a readership loyal to your posts, it’s always nice to inject something a little different. I think that a guest post offers a different perspective and can be refreshing for your readers. It’s also a great opportunity for you to invite members of your community to share their thoughts. This, in turn, can bring a whole host of new visitors to your site, as the poster passes the link on to their friends and contacts.
Don’t Over Police Your Comments

While spam is the bane of all our lives, closing comments altogether or getting a little too tough with the moderating is a sure fire way to put people off. By all means, delete those comments laden with links to sites offering ‘cheap Viagra’ but don’t go all power-trippy on us! Don’t completely delete someone’s comment because you don’t agree with his or her opinion, for example. Yes, any insults, expletives etc should be moderated. But if you want to build a community around your blog, you have to be prepared to let people have their say. As I see it, if you blog, you’re putting your opinions out into the public domain and then have a responsibility to hear out people who wish to respond to them.

Offer them something of use when you write

The most popular blogs are the ones that have a use. If you are looking to find the most recent movie review then you can look through the millions of movie websites, or you can log onto the blog of the person who has just been to see the movie.

Install an RSS feed on your blog

People are going to keep coming back to your blog if they have an RSS feed. It tells them when you have a new post, and reminds them of how many they have missed. It also reminds them that you exist at all.

Make sure your blog always has a happy theme

As weird as it sounds, researchers found out that lots of people do not watch the news on TV because it makes them feel sad. Avoid this pitfall with your blog and keep the tone positive so that people feel happy as they visit.

Give them funny pictures and gifs to share with friends

Give people things to share with their friends and they will keep coming back each week. When they share funny things online it makes them look good, so they keep coming back in order to look good.

Make your domain name and blog easy to remember

People will return if they easily remember your domain name and/or your blog’s name. If you make it easy to remember, people will not have to search around online as much.

Brand your blog and imprint it on your readers’ minds

Branding is there to help you keep your blog imprinted on the mind of your reader. It is there to help them remember you at certain key moments. For example, you are probably aware of car branding, to the point where you remember brand qualities when buying a car, e.g. Volvo for safety, etc.

Start a comment section and encourage a lively debate

You can get people to return by engaging them on the comment section. The best way of doing this is to kick off a lively debate. You can be the “pot stirrer” so to speak, in that you are the one that starts and restarts the comment section topics/issues.

Offer people weekly updates or results

People will visit you weekly if you give out weekly updates or results of some kind. For example, you could give updates on the latest gambling results, or the progress of your local political party.

Link your blog benefits to the user personally

This is not as difficult as it sounds, as all you need to do is find a personal issue and exploit it. It can range from the very broad such as money saving to the very specific such as new diabetic developments or party political progress.

Make it clear that your comment links are followed

Many comment sections allow you to install a link into to another website, but they install a no-follow tag. This means that the link will not be followed by search engines and so has no SEO value. Do not install a “no-follow” tag, and tell people, and they will return weekly to install links.

Give them new jokes to tell their friends or dating advice

Give them something that is both personal and that they can use. Make it a mixture of point 1 and point 4. Things such as a joke to tell at a wedding or dating advice are something that people can use personally.

Start a newsletter for your blog

This will allow you to send monthly emails to your readers to promote your blog and remind people that your blog still exists. It also allows you to remind them of all the benefits of using and attending your blog.

Turn your blog into a serial that grows every week

Serial blogs are hard to pull off because you risk scaring away new viewers. But, if you can pull it off then you will have people attending and re-attending all the time in order to see the next installments of your blog.

You can now actually put a Wikipedia search bar on your Blogger blog. This nice and very useful widget was just made available to Blogger recently and with it, now your visitors can be able to search any Wikipedia articles without having to leave your website.

So how can you start incorporating this widget to your blog? Just follow the simple steps below:

• In your Blogger dashboard, head over to the Design page and click on Layout.

• Click on the Add a Widget placeholder where you’d like to place the search bar.

• Click on More Gadgets in the Add a Gadget pop-up window and you’ll see the new Wikipedia widget at the top of the list.

• Click on the plus (+) sign to add it to your template.

And that’s it! You’re done. Check and preview your site to see the widget on your site and ready for use.

Do you run more than one Blogger site that covers pretty much the same niche or topic in order to have more money sources? Although running multiple blogs of the same niche can look like a good idea, it can however be too much to handle and a hassle. That’s why for some, merging Blogger sites might be a good, if not better, idea.

Luckily for those of you who are thinking about doing just that (merging blogs), Ankit Kumar Singla has created a nice simple tutorial on how you can go about doing it. All it takes is utilizing Blogger’s Export and Import tools.

First thing you’d want to do is export the blog which you don’t want any more:

• Log in to that blog, go to Settings > Other.

• Click on Export Blog then the Download Blog button.

Now you’re going to import that blog by uploading it to the one you’d like to keep running:

• Log in to that blog, go to Settings > Other.

• Click on Import Blog then Choose File to select the .xml file you downloaded.

• Type the appropriate Captcha code and then the Import Blog button.

That’s it! You’re done!

Just repeat the whole process with another blog site you have if you want to merge more than one blog to your main blog.

Google Plus comments have been implemented to Blogger which adds great functionality to your blog site. It is a useful tool to keep your conversations with your visitors organized. Readers can interact and share the comments, even posting a comment in your Google Plus site and appearing on your site.

But how about if the Blogger template used is customized, how can it be installed? Here’s a tutorial that will help you add this feature on your template.

• Login to your Blogger account.
• Click the blog you want to add the Google Plus comment.
• Click the Google+ option seen at the left sidebar. Now to do this, you must be the admin of a blog so you can view the option.
• Upgrade the account, add it with Google Plus if you haven’t done it yet. After that, you will see a Get Started button. Simply follow the instructions provided.
• Check on the option that says Use Google+ Comments on this Blog.
• For custom templates, click Template > Edit HTML
• Look for this code:

<div class='comments' id='comments'>

• Add this code after it:

<div class='cmt_iframe_holder' expr:data-href='data:post.canonicalUrl'expr:data-viewtype=' data:post.viewType'/>

Blogger has already introduced custom domain name. If you purchase a domain name through Blogger, there’s no issue in setting it up because Blogger automatically configures CNAME. However if you purchased the domain name separately, you have to manually configure it.

This post I’m going to help you how to host your own domain name on Blogger, like my website www.toptut.net.

Mainly you have to follow 4 major steps:

1. Adding custom domain on Blogger
2. Getting your domain ownership verification token
3. Change DNS (Domain Name System) settings
4. Verifying Domain name ownership on Blogger

If you don’t have a Blogger account first you have to create it, if you have a Google account you already have a Blogger account, so just log-in to Blogger.

If you still can't redirect your domain to your Blogger blog and need help, then you can ask us to do it. We will help you in setting up custom domain on your Blogger blog.

Step 1: Adding custom domain on Blogger
Go to http://www.blogger.com/

Now if you already have a blog, select which blog should use the new custom domain name.
Go to your selected blog's “Settings > Basic”.

Under the “Publishing”, click “Add custom domain”.

Now in the “Advanced settings” type your new domain name URL.

Click “Save” button. Then blogger display this error “We have not been able to verify your authority to this domain. Error 12. Please follow the settings instructions.”

Click “settings instructions”. If you click this link before that error (above), you can’t configure CNAME correctly.

Step 2: Getting your domain ownership verification token

Now you will be redirected to the “How do I use a custom domain name for my blog?” page.
On this page, tick the “On a top-level domain (www.example.com).” option.

Once you’ve chosen an option, setup instructions appear. At the beginning of the instructions you should see something similar to the screenshot below.

Pay attention to a pair of two codes highlighted in the screenshot. Those are your domain ownership token. In my example the codes are “J6VKJNRFUXD3" and “gv-JWLTPCFOOA27RPMP3PPRPPW4KZUGVEMMZK365WBH4UHOPYEFUBMA.domainverify.googlehosted.com.”. Your token will be different.

Step 3: Change DNS settings

Go to your domain name registrar’s “DNS console” panel and log-in.

Navigate to the “Host Records” click edit.

Add a CNAME.

For Host Name/Name/Label or Host” field, enter “www” without quotes and

For Address/Destination/Target or Points To field, enter “ghs.google.com” without the quotes.

Now add another CNAME. This is for domain ownership verification.

In the Host Name field, paste the first code you get in step 2.3, ex: "J6VKJNRFUXD3".

In the Destination field, paste the second code, ex: “gv-JWLTPCFOOA27RPMP3PPRPPW4KZUGVEMMZK365WBH4UHOPYEFUBMA.domainverify.googlehosted.com.”.(Use your own codes generated in step 2.3, don’t use the two codes above).

Now we should add “A-records”. If you already have “A-records”, modify them. If not, click “Add” button.

You have to add 4 separate “A-records”, pointing to the following Google IP addresses:

216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21

Enter each IP into an “Address” field. In the corresponding “Host Name” field, enter your domain’s naked URL (without “www”, e.g example.com).

Finally click “Save” button and wait for a few minutes to update all your domain settings.

Step 4: Update your Blogger settings

Now go back to “Settings > Basic > Publishing” on Blogger and again enter your custom domain name with “www”.

Tick “redirect” option.

Finally click “Save” button. If it again displays “Unable to verify authority…” error, wait for a few hours to update your DNS settings and again add your domain name. No need to follow Host Records modifications. Just add domain name to Blogger publishing section.

That’s it, now your blog has a custom domain name.

We hope that this article helped you to host your own domain name on Blogger. Feel free to leave a comment below!

This is called Blogspot Title Swapping. Swapping blogs title can help boost your position in search engine results page listing and also increase clickthroughs. From an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) perspective, page title is the most important element in your blog in terms of ranking well in search engines.

One of the reasons why a lot of people choose Wordpress over Blogger.com is because of the poor Search Engine Optimization (SEO) by Blogger.com. One of it would be because of the title structure of the blog posts in Blogger.com.

If you look at your browser's title bar you will notice that Blogger's default templates display your blog title in front of each page or post title. It' not good for SEO.

Make your blogger templates more SEO friendly by optimizing blog post title. Blogger templates are not updated from a long times. And so these templates are not SEO friendly. This tutorial will help you to make your blogger template more SEO friendly by optimizing your blog post title.

Most of the blogger templates are not SEO friendly because the templates are available in Blogger were designed on 2007 and these are not updated yet. But the Google SEO algorithm has been changed a lot of time and so the blogger templates are not SEO friendly now. If you want your search engine ranking, it is very important to make your blogger template SEO friendly. I wish this small SEO and blogger tutorial will help you to keep up your ranking.

If you are also using a template from blogger then you need to make some changes on it in order to make your blogger templates SEO friendly. Normally blogger templates use h1 tag on blog title, which is all right. But the post titles are not okay because they are using h3 tags. For many reasons you can lose you’re ranking on search results and this is one of them.

You cannot find this error on WordPress Themes because the WordPress themes are fresh. And before publishing they were reviewed many times by the theme creator and another experts. But the blogger templates are created by expert but they are not freshly publish.

Optimize the Post Title in Blogger Blog  If you want to optimize your blog post title, you need to change your blog post title from h3 to h2. I am going to explain the easiest way to do this. So follow me.
Step 1- Go to Blogger Dashboard > Templates > Edit HTML. Mark the “Expand Widget Template” option.
Step 2:- Press Ctrl+F and find this line.
<h3 class=’post-title entry-title’ itemprop=’name’>
You will see something like this. Please take a look on the screenshot blew.

Now change the “h3″ to “h2″. Please remember you need to change to tag twice. When the tag started (<h3>) and when the tag closed (</h3>). This is very important because if you forget to edit the both tag, your template will be broken.

That’s it! This editing not only make your blog SEO friendly but also make your blogger blog more beautiful and user friendly. Stop using h3 on post title. H3 tags is good for subheading but not for the post title. This editing doesn’t make any big change on your SEO ranking but it is true that there is no easy and shortcut way to get a better ranking. A lot of small and effective tricks can give you better SEO ranking.
